How to Maintain a Sew-In Weave

If you're not familiar, hair weaves are attached to your hair for added length and volume. Some women use bonding glue, but I strongly suggest to sew your extensions in.  Sew-in weaves are sewn into cornrow braids. Taking care of a sew-in weave is similar to how you take care of your natural hair. However, weaves are more prone to dryness because the oils from your scalp do not make it down the hair weaves shaft. Learn how to maintain a sew-in weave and keep it in the best condition.

Things you'll need:
  • Moisturizing shampoo
  • Moisturizing  conditioner
  • Satin scarf
  • Shampoo your hair and sew-in every 10 days at the most. Use a moisturizing shampoo and focus on scrubbing the scalp. Let the product run down the length of the hair. Rinse it out thoroughly with warm water.
  • Deep condition the hair after every time that you shampoo it. Regular conditioner may not nourish a weave properly. Apply a quarter-size amount down the length of the weave, with a focus on the ends. Let it sit in the hair for 15 minutes before washing it out.
  •  Use heat on the sew-in sparingly. If you must heat-style it, use hair dryers and curling irons on low heat settings.
  •  Sleep with a satin scarf on your sew-in weave. Wrap the weave around the back of your hair so it is flat. Put on the satin scarf and tie it in place. This prevents damage and keeps the sew-in flat and straight.
